The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent a global framework aimed at achieving inclusive, equitable and sustainable development by 2030. While modern science and technology play a crucial role in achieving these goals, indigenous and traditional knowledge systems offer time-tested, context-specific, and sustainable solutions. Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), rooted in centuries of lived experience, philosophy, and scientific understanding, provide holistic approaches to environmental sustainability, social equity, economic resilience, and human well being. This chapter explores the intersections between IKS and the SDGs, highlighting how indigenous wisdom can complement modern development strategies to create sustainable and culturally grounded solutions.
